The Gloucestershire Joint Formulary is a joint venture from Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The formulary also includes Primary Care Antibiotic Guidelines.


The One Gloucestershire Pain Formulary has been developed to support prescribers and patients in making the best choices in relation to medicines for pain.


The Gloucestershire Wound Management (Dressing) Formulary is aimed at aiding clinical staff to select the most appropriate dressing fro wounds healing by decondary intention. The aims of the formulary are to:

  • promote evidence based practice by providing a framework within which it is safe to practice
  • promote continuity of care
  • promote rational prescribing
  • support the practical application of nurse prescribing
  • encourage safe, effective and appropriate use of dressings
  • cost effectiveness


The British National Formulary (BNF) is designed as a digest for rapid reference and should be interpreted in the light of professional knowledge and supplemented as necessary by specialised publications and by reference to the product literature.
