There are over 62,500 unpaid carers in Gloucestershire and it is important that we identify carers as early as possible to ensure they receive the support they need to manage their own health and wellbeing.

Information, Advice and Guidance

Getting the right advice and guidance can make all the difference to your life as a carer. Perhaps you want to organise respite care so you can take a well-earned break? Or get to grips with the benefits system so you can get the right financial support?

Carers Emergency Scheme

You will be given a carers card with a Helpline number to call if you are caught up in an emergency and become unavailable to carry out your caring role. The scheme will ensure that the person you care for is supported, either by a close friend or relative, or a support worker from a CQC registered care agency

Carers Breaks

This is a service to offer a few hours of replacement care in the form of care and support in group activities, at a day centre or one-to-one help at home. To access this service the carer must have a carers assessment in which eligible needs are identified. This service is free to carers who qualify for it.

Emotional Support Service

Counselling can help you explore how you’re feeling and make sense of distressing emotions like guilt, anger and grief. It’s a chance to think about yourself and what you really want from life.

Positive Caring Programme

Positive caring is the collective umbrella of FREE learning and training opportunities that are on offer to unpaid carers in Gloucestershire.

Carers Voice

The Gloucestershire Carers Alliance, supported by Gloucestershire Carers Hub, brings together young carers, parent carers and carers of adults to influence policy and improve services, leading to better outcomes for all carers.

1. Identify and code carers: new patients at registration and existing patients
2. Carer resource pack (letter, Gloucestershire Carers Hub information, information sharing consent)
3. Carer information in waiting room and on website
4. Offer carer health check with GP (consider using pre health check questionnaire developed by North Cotswolds)

6. Offer carer a free flu jab
7. Involve PPG to help make local community more carer aware and support practice
8. Consider identifying a GP carer lead
9. Consider in-house staff training, for all staff
